Swarnim Vijay Diwas is observed on 16th December every year. It commemorates the anniversary of the Indian Armed Force’s wins during Indo-Pak War in 1971. In the war, almost 93, 000 Pakistani soldiers lost their lives and Bangladesh got liberated. 

On the Swarnim Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalls and honours the sacrifice made by the Indian soldiers and sacrifices by the Muktijoddhas, Indian Armed Forces and Biranganas. All fought together and defeated the enemy. 

Swarnim Vijay Diwas is observed on 16th December every year. It commemorates the anniversary of the Indian Armed Force’s wins during Indo-Pak War in 1971., Prime Minister Narendra Modi lit the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal from the Eternal Flame at the National War Memorial. He lit 4 flames that would travel in all 4 different directions within the nation. Those flames have travelled to Kanyakumari, Siachen, Longewala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Agartala and Rann of Kutch

Back in 1971, Indo-Pak was a historical moment for India, plus it resulted in Bangladesh’s independence. It established the progress of the Indian army, navy and force. It all started on 3rd December in 1971 when there was a conflict going on in East Pakistan. Eventually, the war ended 13 days later, with India achieving victory and Pakistan signing the instrument of surrender. 

On 13th December, India’s Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw said “You surrender or We wipe you out,” and just like that, India won the war and the Pakistan army surrendered. Since then, this day is observed as Vijay Diwas in India as well as Bangladesh. 

Talking about Pakistan, there 93,000 Pakistani servicemen were taken by the Indian army as prisoners out of which around 79,676 to 81,000 were Pakistani uniform personnel. The war is still regarded as one of the best victories our country has achieved over our neighbouring country Pakistan.
