Vandrovec grew up playing multiple sports (tennis, baseball, golf, basketball) in Jamestown, North Dakota. While he might have had a future as a college tennis player, Vandrovec choose to concentrate on academics more than athletics while attending Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. Armed with a degree in communication, Vandrovec went on to win multiple regional and national awards during his 19-year career as a sports journalist working for newspapers in Fargo, North Dakota and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Vandrovec’s decades of work creating high-quality sports-related content made him a natural to join Sanford Health’s marketing team more than a year ago. Part of his job is to oversee the websites devoted to Sanford Health’s sports facilities, clinics, camps, tournaments and other events in the Sioux Falls area. “The Fieldhouse went up first, and that needed a website,” Vandrovec said. “It is a huge, incredible facility. So that site went up. A year later the Sanford Pentagon was completed, and that is definitely the most well-known, busiest, consumer-facing facility. That website has become a focus for us.”
WHAT HE DOES:
While Vandrovec leans on other members of Sanford’s marketing team to handle much of the day-to-day website work, he orchestrates the content creation, design updates, camps and clinics registration and multiple other tasks. “Simple as it sounds the (news slideshow) is huge for us,” Vandrovec said. “We need to have that obvious landing spot. Because of the visibility of that carousel right now, we’re also able to better promote our basketball and volleyball academy offerings for the summer.” Peyton Manning and Bobby Knight are among the sports celebrities to make visits to Sanford facilities in recent weeks. The announcement of four NCAA Division I men’s basketball teams playing in a three-day tournament at the Sanford Center in late November also has been a prominent news item.
MAKING HIS MARK:
Video content is a top priority for Vandrovec, and he helps supplement video created by his staff by reaching out to regional and national media outlets for permission to use clips that help showcase Sanford facilities.
