National Road Safety Week is observed from 11th January to 17th January. As per the data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, India stands at the 1st spot in the maximum number of deaths caused by road accidents out of 199 countries. The ranking is enough to make people realise the importance of traffic rules and regulations. In order to raise awareness and help the public to follow the traffic guidelines, the Government of India in collaboration with the state government, January 11 to January 17 is observed as National Road Safety Week. 

Campaigns are initiated under the ISS India HSE (Health Safety and Environment)  to make people aware of the importance of road safety in India. ISS India officially celebrates Road Safety Week across the country from the first week of January.

As per the data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, India stands at the 1st spot in the maximum number of deaths caused by road accidents out of 199 countries. was to accent and emphasize public the importance of safe roads just by following simple rules. According to the data, around 1 lakh people face life-threatening problems like short-term memory loss, mental shock, and dementia their whole life after road accidents. Especially in India, many are the victim of road accidents due to which they have suffered chronic pain and loss of organs for the rest of their lives. Therefore, it is important to know the relevance of traffic rules on the road. In our country, most people like to use two-wheelers and four-wheelers. 

But the awareness can also be implemented with the help of other organisations. It needs efforts from other communities including the health sector, insurance sector, transport sector, vehicle companies, NGOs and public agencies to name a few. The public needs to understand that the safety of their well-being depends on the traffic rules, they need to be followed religiously. This year’s theme is- Aiming to Reduce Accidents by 50%.
